Evaluation question 2

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The film studio that we have vase to distribute our media product is Warner Brothers. The reason we have chosen Warner Brothers is because they are one of the big 6 studios and are well known around the world for making award winning films. Warner Brothers has also made multiple thriller film which is perfect for us as that is the genre of our film. This is also good for us because they obviously know how to distribute and sell a film successfully. This means that we will be making a hollywood film, which are normally the big successful films that brings in a lot at the box office.

Our film is not apart of a franchise it means we will have no pre established audience which means it will be harder for us to gain an audience and be a box office hit. It is vital that we promote our film well and create buzz within the film community in hope we will sell loads of tickets on the opening weekend. Our film is set to have stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio and J.K. Simmons, bot of which have loads of star power and will likely create buzz. Leonardo DiCaprio himself has been in multiple award winning/nominated films. He was also in Martin Scorsese's 2010 Shutter Island. Shutter island was a huge success making a staggering $41 million on the first box office opening. On the second weekend it went on to make $22 million. The film went on to make $294 million worldwide. This indicated to us that Leonardo DiCaprio  must have had a good influence on the films success which is why we chose him to be in our film.

Warner Brothers also distributed The Accountant in 2016 which also starred J.K. Simmons. The film gained a 7.4/10 on IMDb, a 2/5 from the guardian and 4.5/5 from Amazon.co.uk. These are pretty good ratings for a thriller/crime film and was also a reason why we chose both Warner Brothers as our studio and J.K. Simmons to be in the film.

In conclusion warner brothers was our first choice because our actors, Leonardo DiCaprio and J.K. Simmons have worked with the studio in the past on successful films which is important to us along side making a lot of money at the box office.

Evaluation Question 1

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

During the process of making our title sequence i have learnt about new technologies and techniques to be more efficiant during our filming and editing sessions.

The first thing i learnt during the process was during our film shoot when we noticed that it would be benifcial to shoot the same scene but from multiple different angels because when it came to the editing sessions, me being the editor had loads of choice in clips to use to create our title sequence. Filming from multiple angels meant that i could do mid action cuts so for example there was a shot where the killer (harry) is turning the page of the book he had in front of him and mid way through turning the page, the camera cuts from the right side of the book to an over the shoulder of harry. I had to make sure that the first shot ended in the same place that the second shot starts to make sure the audience knows that it is still the same scene and there has been no change in the timeline.

Another thing i have leant during the process of creating our title sequence is using different softwares to edit the sequence. During school time i would use final cut pro to edit the sequence and make sure all the clips are in order. If i decided i would then want to take the footage home and continue editing then i would put whatever i had edited on final cut on to a USB stick along with the rest of the footage that i hadn't put into the sequence yet. At home i was lucky to have my own PC setup so i was able to edit at home, i found this more convieniant and efficiant because i couldn't be distracted by anything in comparison to editing in class where i had friends around me. To edit the title sequence at home i used two programs. The first being Premier Pro to order the sequence and make sure it makes sense for our audience to watch it. Premier Pro is new to me but i found it easy to get the hang of it and learn about its different features. The second program i would use to edit our sequence was After Effects CS6, this program i used to add in the titles and text. It was possible for me to do the titles in Premier Pro but from personal experience i found after effects to be a lot quicker and easier. I have been using after effects for a few years now so i pretty much know where to find everything that i need and the shortcuts to get work done quicker.

Another Program that i experimented with during the process of editing our title sequence was Motion. Motion was recently added to the schools server so i decided that it might be worth having a look at because it could have been an interesting way of creating the titles and text in our title sequence. I did have a go at it and made our title ''4Days'' with it and i didn't think it looked that bad. However i found motion to be similar to a program that i use at home called cinema 4D. I have a lot more experience with Cinema 4D so if i was to create any interesting or animated text then i would likely choose that to create it. However even though i found both programs to be a useful source to create our text, i came to a decision that basic 2D text suited better because when i think of cool stylised titles i normally think of action sic-fi films but our film is a thriller/crime film.

Blogging was new to me when we first started it but after a few months of doing it i have found it to not be so tricky. After each lesson or filming/editing sessions i would write a blog about what we did and how it is going to help create our final sequence. I took pictures during the shoots on my phone camera of us setting up the scene. For example in our detective scene re-shoot i took pictures of the desk and one of the cinematographer (tommy) setting up the camera in a new position ready to shoot the next scene.

In conclusion i feel that i have gained multiple new skills that will benefit me during the future when i next shoot a film or some other kind of video. I now know how to use multiple different softwares so i now have a choice of programs to use when it comes to editing my work. I feel that now having those skills i will be quicker and more efficient next year when it comes to doing my coursework as i will be able to skip the learning stage of editing and blogging.

Experimenting with motion

Experimenting with Motion

Motion is a new program recently added to the schools server which we thought would be a good idea to try out as it could be a possible option for creating our titles in our sequence. In class i tried out motion and it didn't take me that long to get to know where things were and how to use them. I found that Motions worked similarly to a program i personally use at home called Cinema 4D. Due to me having a lot more experience with using Cinema 4D i would have to say that it would be my first choice if i had to choose a program to create my titles on. However i would have no problem with using motion if that was my only option as i feel i have learned all the basics of it and wouldn't mind getting to know a bit more about it and use it to its full potential. When playing around with it i decided i would have a practice at making a title captioned ''4 DAYS'' as this is the name of our film. I was approaching it as if i was creating a poster for the film so this meant making the text look cool and possibly a bit creepy to match the genre of our film

Font used in the final sequence

Font used for the titles

in our finished Title sequence the font that will be used for the titles is going to be ''Mistral'' which is the same font used in our second screening. Although we said before that we might need to change it, we were unable to find another font that we thought would work/suit our title sequence better then the one we originally used. Hopefully this will turn out to be a good choice to have made.

During my editing sessions i did search through loads of fonts and there were a few i liked but i didn't feel they worked or would suit the genre of our film.

Pictures of us setting up the re-shoot for our investigation scene.

These are images of the group setting up the scene, there were a few papers and folders that needed to be moved. We decided to just turn some of the papers over because they give the extra effect of the detective being in a working environment. When shooting a few shots we noticed that there were coats and a drink bottle on the desk that we decided to move out of the way as we didn't want the audience to focus on anything but the detective.

Re- Editing our title sequence

Re- Editing our Title Sequence

Today i started to re edit our title sequence as we now had new footage of our investigation scene. Whilst filming we realised there was a few shots we could use as transitions from the investigation scene to the killer scene. For example the high angle shot looking down at the killers book we could then fade that shot out and bring in the same kind of shot but from the detectives point of view. As i am on my Eater Holiday i am unable to use Final Cut Pro to edit the title sequence so i will be using Premier Pro and After Effects as i have access to them on my PC. I use Premier Pro to edit all the footage and make sure its all in order and then move that into after effects to change and of the colour and add in the titles. Once i have finished editing i will show my group members and see what they think of it and if it needs anything changed or adjusted.

Mise en Scene for Detective

Mise en Scene for the detective.

When filming for the detectives scene-the detective played by Leonardo DiCaprio (George), it was important we showed the binary opposition of good vs evil. As i knew that we were going to play the killers scene first when editing it, we wanted to make sure that it was clear which of the characters were good and which characters were bad. For the detectives costume we combed over Georges hair to make it look smart and clean which makes him look smart and appropriate for this role. For his clothing he wore a suit which gave him a look of authority and upper class. We feel that this worked well and will clearly tell our audience what kind of character he will be. Some of the props we used in our shoot included a work folder and pictures for the investigation board and to go on the table.

Production log 4

Re-Shooting our investigation scene.

Today we re-shot our investigation scene because the lighting in the first scenes we shot looked too bright so we decided we would either re shoot the scenes at a different time of day when its darker or just shoot in a different area. We ended up deciding to shoot in the English staff room as it was easier to control the lighting in the room. The staff room also had a pin board and a large table where the detective could sit and work on his case. We got a number of creative shots such as over the shoulder and high angles looking over the top of George (detective). We only had an hour to shoot as much as we could so we had to be efficient with our time and setting up, so when harry and myself were setting up the pin board and the table, Tommy and George were shooting the scene of George walking down the corridor towards the camera. This worked well as by the time they had shot that scene, we had set up the scene in the staff room so we were ready for them to continue filming straight away. If we had more time i would probably try to film a few more random shots just in case we needed some fillers.

Issues with 2nd Screening

Issues after second screening

There were a couple of issues that we found out after our second screening that we will need to change during our next editing session. The first being the font we used, it was agreed that we could find a better font that suits our genre. The second issue was one of the scenes we used where Harry (The killer) was tapping the table which looked good but it was too quick compared to the soundtrack. The last issue we had was the lighting in the investigation scene. Our peers and teacher agreed that the lighting was too bright so in our re shoot we will need to choose a better time to shoot when its darker or find somewhere where we could control the lighting our self.

Feedback for second screening

Second screening Feedback

In our second screening we received more feedback sheets from our peers on things that worked and things that didn't work in our title sequence. Things we were told we need to improve were the fonts used. As only a few of my peers didn't agree with the font i will have to consider weather to go back into editing and find a different font that suites the genre we have chosen. A lot of my peers really liked the title at the end where the letters flashed in sync with the soundtrack so thats something i will be keeping the same for the final piece.

Like our first screening our peers said that the cinematography was good and they liked the range of shot we had used. They also liked the style of editing with the quick flashes that synced with soundtrack. Also like in the first screening my peers liked the use of the strobe light in Harrys scene.

Something that some of my peers said could be developed was there could be some more distortion to create a warped effect to make the audience feel they are in the mind of the killer.

The studio

Studio

The studio we have chosen to fund and produce our film is Warner Brothers. This is because they have made multiple thriller and crime films that have been successful so we have decided that they would be our best choice. Warner Brothers being a huge studio and being known all around the world means that our film should be well promoted and should be well marketed.

Monday 20 March 2017

Director

Director of the film.

The director we have chosen for our film is Martin Scorsese. This is because he has successfully directed a lot of thriller/crime films such as ''The Departed'' (2006) which was very successful winning Academy award for best Picture and Academy Award for best Director and many more which made us come to the a decision to pick Martin Scorsese as the director of our film. It is vital that we picked a director that has a good reputation for thriller kind of films as he of most people will know best about what makes an successful thriller/crime movie and what an audience expects from it.

Soundtrack

Soundtrack

For our soundtrack we decided that harry and gorge would create the sound track instead of finding one of of the internet. The reason we chose to do this is so that we could make sure it sounded exactly how we wanted it to be and not risk finding one on the internet that might not sound right or match our genre thriller/crime.

To create the sound track they will both be using Logic Pro on the macs provided in the department. Once the soundtrack is finished being created they will then give it to me so that i can start editing the clips over the top of the soundtrack. I will be making sure that at least the majority of cuts will sync with the beats in the soundtrack.

Release

When would we release our film?

If we had to pick a time of year to release our film we would either do it during the Easter when more people are likely to go and see is which would hopefully give it better recognition. Also we could have a chance of the film being sown at a film festival where it could have a chance of being nominated for an award which is our main goal. If we had to pick any other time to release the film then i would personally say to do it in October as it is the month of Halloween. Although you would expect horror film to be released at this time, our film has a killer in it and violence which i still feel like will work well if released at this time.

Audience Profile

Audience profile

Target Age: 15-25
Target Gender: Male
Occupation: Young adults in part time jobs or students with an interest in thriller psycho killer movies with a crime style to them.
Education: Any
Personality/ Interests: An interest in thriller movies with a bit of gore in and murder cases. People who enjoy the thrill of a movie and are looking for surprises. Males tend to watch these kinds of movies more often then women as most enjoy watching violent kinds of movies and dont mind a bit of gore here and there.

Students who may attend colleges only have to attend a few days of the week meaning they have more spare time to go to the cinema and view the film. Young adults would have finished their education and looking for jobs so during this perios of time they are free alot of the time giving them the option of going to the cinema more often.

Our secondary audience would have to be Adults (roughly 30+). Even though i say secondary i still believe they could be classed as the primary because majority of people do enjoy watching crime films so i wouldn't expect people 30+ to not watch this film.

Monday 13 March 2017

Budget

Budget

The budget of our feel will be reasonably low as it is a small independent film. The average budget of an independent film is roughly $2 million so i believe it is reasonable if we were to set our budget at around $3 million. This will hopefully pay for our production and distribution company to help create and market the film successfully. Our main goal for this film is to be nominated or even win an award or gain a good critic reception as we want to be recognised by bigger company's that might consider working with us on a future film.

Next shoot

Next Shoot

For our next shoot we have decided to book out one of the conference rooms so that we can film our investigation scene in and hopefully get some good shots. I originally had shot this scene in my house but didn't feel that it looked professional enough so we decided to reshoot in a new location. This is where the idea of booking out a conference room came in so tommy emailed one of the schools staff to ask if we could use it.

Production Log 3

Production Log 3

In today's lesson we booked out a conference room because we wanted to re film our investigation scene that i had originally done at home. The reason we decided we would re film this scene is because the area i filmed it in was too small and it didn't tell the audience enough about where it was. So today we decided that using a conference room would work better as it had a better environment and looked more realistic. We got a number of different shots of the scene with George in playing as the investigator trying to solve the crimes.
Some  of the props we used in today's shoot were photos of children that we had got ourselves used them as victims of the crimes and some other pictures to create the investigation board such a map, newspaper article, a suspect photo and copy of fingerprints and footprints. A couple of other things we used in the scene of George sitting at the table were more photos and some other random bits that you would find in an office environment such as pens, pins, paper clips and folders.

Change in our narrative

Changing our Narrative

During the process of making our title sequence we realised that we would need to change our narrative bit because originally we wanted the protagonist to be a father who would be filmed in his home solving the crime however due to us not have time to go and film in someones house we decided that we would just have a detective working in his office. We still-think that it could work having him be the father of the child that has been kid napped however in our new narrative he is already a detective.

Production Log 2

Production Log 2

In todays lesson we went back to the drama room that we filmed in during our first shoot. This time we re filmed some of our shots and added a few new ones. We managed to film our opening shot of harrys feet and then him sitting down at the table where he would open the book which is supposed to represent a new story beginning.   We needed to re shot a few scenes because the lighting wasn't good enough in the original footage or it was too grainy. Although we want our footage to look a little grainy we don't want it to spoil the footage or make it un clear what is going on.

In this shoot we used pretty much the same props as the same one which is
Fake knife
Fake butchers knife
Fake blood
Tracing paper
A sheet of yarn to lay on the table.

Questionnaire

I will ask my peers and teachers to fill out a questionnaire that asks them Crime/Thriller related questions. The questions will help myself decide what we need to add and after showing my group the results I will be able to take in their input of what we should add in order to make the genre clearer.

The results -

There was one more result paper however it never got given back to me.
From these results I know that music should be a mixture of Intense and Eerie, there should be Quite a lot of blood, we should take ideas from seven, and it should have an element of horror within it.

Feedback

Feedback

In today's lesson we were given some feedback on our title sequence so far. We gained some positive feedback for things such as the cinematography, soundtrack and props used. The things we were told we could improve on was to maybe get rid of some of the scenes as they didn't quite fit. For example the investigation scene we planned to use could be taken out or if we want to keep it then there needs to be a clearer transition from the two settings. We were also told that we need to have maybe 1 or 2 more setting in our title sequence.

Cinematography -
Canted angle shot
Low angle shot to show the killer as a more powerful being
Hand Held Footage

Sound -
Add foley sound like scratching or footsteps for example

Editing -
No gaps
Credits
Correct font
Clear narrative structure

Mise en Scene -
Possibly add a new location
More props
investigation scene needs work e.g. wrong setting.

Using Final Cut Pro

Using final cut Pro

When editing our title sequence we had to use final cut pro on the Macs in the school. It didn't take me that long to figure out how to use it and learn all the little specs that would come in handy such as the transform tools including scale, rotation and anchor point. Final cut has plenty of filters to choose from which comes in handy in case we want a scene to look darker or lighter/. The filters can also change the levels of intensity. Using Final cut Pro wasn't as easy for me compared to using my own programs at home such as Premier Pro and after effects. This is probably because i am already use to using these programs and final cut pro is new to me. However i dont thing it takes that long to get use to and i found that experimenting with different tools is a good way of learning where everything is and what works well and what doesn't.

Today myself harry George and Tommy filmed our first shoot in the drama room, we used our prop book that harry made, fake blood, a strobe light, netted yarn, fake knives and the filming equipment. Tommy being the cinematographer came up with the different camera shot ideas and the rest of the group gave a few ideas here and there. As i am the editor i gave some hints on what things would look good in our final piece and how some of the shots would be effective.

These are photographs of our prop book -

Issues from 1st Screening

Issues with the 1st screening

After our first screening there were a few issues we would need to fix during our next shoot and editing sessions. The first issue was that we had not established our narrative well enough and it wasn't clear enough on what the film is about.

The second issue was that we had still not added any titles meaning our peers had no idea on who is in the film, who directed it or any of the company's that helped produce it.

Another issue was that our investigation scene didn't have anyone in it and the setting takes place in doesn't look much like an office so we are going to need to re shoot that.

Title sequence Narrative

Title sequence Narrative

We have come up with a narrative for our title sequences film, using todorovs narrative structure.
this is our narrative:

Equilibrium:New family move into new house. (father/ex cop and two sons/one young one late teens)
they notice that their are no kids on the street.

Disruption:children been going missing since the neighbour has lived there, only this streets children go missing
family don't believe it carry on packing
few days later one night youngest son wakes to the sound of pebbles being thrown at his window he goes to check and finds a figure of a very tall man over the road just staring at him, as a car goes by the man disappeared. weird things keep happening to the boy: he wakes up in the morning to find things have moved around in his room to finding his window wide open and footprints around his room. This becomes more serious with each happening.

Disequilibrium:the father is told about the children being murdered in depth. (only evidence are polaroid's of the dead children with them scribbled out).
fathers youngest son goes missing from his room one night. only thing left behind is a picture of both sons but the eldest eyes are scribbled out. the father believes his son has been taken by whatever has killed the other children, the father goes to the police station to look through evidence this shows him that all the murders happened exactly four days after they went missing, on the fourth day using the evidence he finds out where his son is rapidly heads there in hope of finding him alive.

Attempt to repair:father finds the place races in to find his son bound and gaged but alive, goes to leave until the killer terns up. father fights the killer he thinks he's dead. they leave to go home.

New equilibrium:they get home to find the front door wide open. they walk inside wearily and in the hallway they find the same polaroid that was on his young sons bed but with the eldest son scribbled out. the father sees the back door open and finds that his eldest son is dead in a tree in the back garden.

Mise en Scene for killer

Mise en scene- killer shoot

For our killer scene, we wanted our actor to have a rough kind of look. The outfit that we decided that he should wear was back ripped jeans, black boots and a black shirt with some blood smeared on it. We decided it also might be a good idea to smudge charcoal over his hands to give him that rough and dirty kind of look. I feel this effect worked well when it came to shooting the killers scene which will be played by J.K. Simmons (Harry). It clearly shows and tells the audience that this is the killer and will be the main antagonist for the film. Some of the other props in the shoot included a two fake knives that we covered in fake blood to give the effect that they had been used already, giving the audience an idea on what kind of character this is. Another useful prop that turned out to be a success was the strobe light that we found in one of the storage rooms. We placed the strobe light on a table then told harry to stand in front of it. In the scene, harry was acting stressed and agitated and with this mixed with the flashing of the light i thought that when the light was flashing the light then it represented the good and when it would go dark for that fraction of a second, it represents evil and darkness. This gives the audience the idea of good fighting evil.

Typography

Typography

When planing our title sequence we need to consider the typography to use when displaying the credits and the title of the film. These are some of the different examples of fonts we are considering to use.

My favourite font out of the 5 above is either the 4th or the 5th one. The reason i like the 4th one is because i like the way parts of the lettering is either out of place or missing which is mysterious, this is good as our title sequence/ film idea is supposed to be mysterious. The reason i like the 5th one is because although its so simple it just feels like it creates a spooky effect.

The 1st font and 3rd font are pretty similar in the way that they are twisted and almost messed up which is perfect as the character we are looking to shoot in our title sequence is supposed to be a twisted and messed up character.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Analysis of Title Sequence- The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

In todays lesson, as a group we had to discuss the title sequence for ''The Girl with the dragon Tattoo''. This title sequence is slightly unconventional for a Title Sequence because it doesn't establish any of the key characters or settings. Instead the sequence is in low key lighting and it looks like everything is made of ink. This is interesting because the title of the film has the word tattoo in it which ink is required for. Its starts of with a load of close ups but we are un sure on what they are of, one of them looked like dragon scales but we couldn't work out what the rest were. Once the close ups stop playing, the title of the film is revealed. Right after the shot of the title it cuts to an arial shot of someone struggeling with their body strapped down and there eyes have been covered. The body seems to be half submerged in ink.

The next shot gives the audience an idea of where one of the settings in the film is. We see a close up of a keyboard with ink traveling through the gaps. This suggests that one of the the setting in the film is in an office environment. Further on in the sequence we see what looks to be a match being lit, we then see it falling downwards where it then lands in an eye, setting it on fire. As the match is falling towards the eye we see a close up of the eye shaking which suggests the person is struggling. We could also suggest that the person is being tortured by someone.

The fact that fire is being used refers back to the ''dragon'' part of the title as we refer to dragons as fire breathers. Going back to the fire landing in the eye, this is when the pace of the music increase and becomes more intense. We then get  about 8 seconds of quick cuts of different scenes of torture. For example we see a mans face catch on fire and then an extreme close up of what looks to be a face  melting, then it shows a skull on fire so its possible that this is the same person who's face set on fire in the previous shot.

Later in the sequence west what looks to be someone sinking under the water. He is likely to be dead as he looks motionless, it is also possible that he has been killed and then thrown into the water, possibly as being a way of disposing of a body.

Saul Bass

Analysis of Saul Bass's title sequences

Saul Bass was born on the 8th of may 1920 i the bronx, New York City. He died 25th of April 1996. He won Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject, Lion of San Marco for Best Film about Adolescence. He attended James Monroe High School, Brooklyn College, Art Students League of New York.
Saul Bass is a title sequence designer who is very unique with his style of editing. In his work he doesn't tend to use live clips of people moving, instead he creates animation sequences where he animates random shapes or actions and in corporates those with the text to create his title sequences. In some of his work he uses still images and just moves them across the screen and adding in credits. Sometimes the still images can reference or establish scenes or narrative in the film. For example in the title sequence ''Around the world in 80 days'' the audience is shown cartoon images of different places around the world to establish that the film is going to be about traveling the world.

This is a screenshot from the title sequence for around the world in 80 days. Here we can see a man who is likely Asian as he has his hair tied up in a bun and has a paper umbrella. This shows that at some point in the film there will be a scene in Asia. Due to his appearance the audience instantly begins to relate him with stereotypes however Bass's work is known for animating characters within the film and begin to establish their values and opinions. There are other stereotypes within the title sequence, one would be a character (pocket watch) in a top hat drinking tea, this figure would be considered to be British as it expresses British values. In this sequence we see a butterfly flying through to all the different scenes (possibly countries). The butterfly could represent the characters in the film traveling around the world. This is the first symbol that represents the theme of travel, as the title sequence progresses the audience can see other forms of travel. An example of these would be the boat and train. All forms of representations within the theme of travel move forward, this suggests the story is progressing and the journey is being discovered. This also ensures the audience that travel is apart of the narrative.

The butterfly leads the story as it transitions across screen, unraveling the new shots. The butterfly also enables the audience to begin to get an understanding of the characters within the film, it is very conventional for a title sequence to establish themes and characters within the film and Saul Bass manages to do this in an abstract unique which manages to engage the audience right from the start. It is because of this he is one of the most successful title sequence designers and very well known in the film industry, his iconic work never fails to amaze its audience.

Analysis of Title Sequences - Catch me if you can

In todays lesson we watched and discussed the title sequence for ''Catch me if you can''. The title sequence is a Saul Bass styled title sequence as we don't actually see any of the main characters from the film but we do see cartoon characters possibly representing those characters. The other reason this is a Saul Bass styled title sequence is because the animations and the text interact with each eachother  in the clip.

In the title sequence we can see that a character likely to be Leonardo DiCaprio because we see his name and then an arrow pointing towards a small animation character. The character stands out from the others as they are all walking with a straight posture where as he does not have such a great posture. We then see his character pass through an animated line, when he comes through the other side he is in a uniform and begins to walk with a better posture. This shows that he must be trying to hide from someone as he is in a disguise. when the camera moves out from the close up he is in a new setting, this can show the passing of time in the film. In this new setting we see a much larger character sitting down with ''Tom Hanks'' next to him, telling the audience that this is the character being played by Tom Hanks. His character looks well dressed as if he is a detective looking for someone. In this case its fair to say that he is looking for Leonardo's character as we see the animation of Tom Hanks watching him walk away. Once again we see the yellow arrow pointing at the character telling the audience that this is Tom Hanks.

In the next shot we see Leonardos character walking as normal whilst bigger characters are walking past him, this tells us that he is trying to blend in with everyone to avoid being spotted. We also see a scene of a plane flying which tells us that the film won't be taking place in one area and will be traveling to different places. A lot of the time we see Tom Hanks get close to catching Leonardo but just mess him. For example we see a scene where he is climbing out of a swimming pool and just as he gets into his new disguise and leaves the scene, Tom Hanks enters the shot. We are teased again at the end of the title sequence when we see Tom Hanks chasing Leonardo and just as we think Tom has caught him, the scene blacks out leaving the audience in suspense and curious to see what happens.
