Feedback for second screening

Second screening Feedback

In our second screening we received more feedback sheets from our peers on things that worked and things that didn't work in our title sequence. Things we were told we need to improve were the fonts used. As only a few of my peers didn't agree with the font i will have to consider weather to go back into editing and find a different font that suites the genre we have chosen. A lot of my peers really liked the title at the end where the letters flashed in sync with the soundtrack so thats something i will be keeping the same for the final piece.

Like our first screening our peers said that the cinematography was good and they liked the range of shot we had used. They also liked the style of editing with the quick flashes that synced with soundtrack. Also like in the first screening my peers liked the use of the strobe light in Harrys scene.

Something that some of my peers said could be developed was there could be some more distortion to create a warped effect to make the audience feel they are in the mind of the killer.

Feedback

Feedback

In today's lesson we were given some feedback on our title sequence so far. We gained some positive feedback for things such as the cinematography, soundtrack and props used. The things we were told we could improve on was to maybe get rid of some of the scenes as they didn't quite fit. For example the investigation scene we planned to use could be taken out or if we want to keep it then there needs to be a clearer transition from the two settings. We were also told that we need to have maybe 1 or 2 more setting in our title sequence.

Cinematography -
Canted angle shot
Low angle shot to show the killer as a more powerful being
Hand Held Footage

Sound -
Add foley sound like scratching or footsteps for example

Editing -
No gaps
Credits
Correct font
Clear narrative structure

Mise en Scene -
Possibly add a new location
More props
investigation scene needs work e.g. wrong setting.
new character

Drafting our Continuity

Continuity Sequence

In today's lesson we began to draft and story board our continuity sequence. We came up with the idea of an action sequence with a gangster theme to it. We agreed that it would be about someone who has stolen money from a friend who is well respected gangster with a lot of money. George who is the gangster is in disgust with this and decides he wants to kill john who has stolen the money from him. However when it came to filming our continuity sequence one of our members of the group was not in and we were limited on the amount of time we had to film, because of this we decided to change our story. We found a batman costume in a props section so we decided to make a comedy version of batman. We didn't have any additional lighting to help set the scene but because its batman it is expected to be low key lighting. In some parts during the convocation between the two characters (Batman and Gotti) we used a couple of iPhone torches to help light the faces of the characters but not too much to make it obvious. When shooting each of the characters speaking to each other, instead of switching the camera position every time someone else talks we just shot all of their lines at once and then in the editing process we separated it all out. This was helpful as it meant we could work quicker and in the final piece it didn't look like the camera had moved at all from its previous shot.

I feel that if we had a bit more time for filming and had the whole group then the final piece could have been better but i am still happy with the way it came out. I used final cut pro to edit our piece which i have used maybe once or twice before but not enough to no my way around it. However a little while i worked out where everything i needed was and it became a lot easier to create our final piece.
